To me, life is like a bicycle race; it always has a difficult uphill waiting for you while you are just passing on an easy downhill. When you are enjoying the speed in the downhill, you still have to pay attention to any possible danger that could occur in the next sharp turn. Though you are laboring up the hill, you can apply your riding skills and endurance to conquer any of the steep hills that lie before you. The reason I am pursuing an MS-Mgt as my graduate study is to acquire enough knowledge to perceive the potential risk of operation and get well-trained in managerial skills to solve the problems of a corporation.
I worked in various culture-based companies in Taiwan. Each company served as a different section in the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) industrial chain. Each company faced the same difficulties and challenges from aspects of marketing, finance, and operation. In my first work experience, I remember how deficient circulating funds and erroneous stock management can cause an enterprise to go to bankruptcy while it is still booming in business. When I acted as an exclusive agent of the overseas brand in the Taiwan market at GTT Company, I realized even a good product still needs an excellent marketing mix to make it successful. As a purchaser at Horizon Technology, I understand the purchasing management and shipping strategy are the most important factors to a global trading company. While sales specialist at Ledyoung Technology, I understood that the supply-chain and quality management have serious impacts to the margin of OEM manufacturers. Nine years of working in the LCD industry have prompted and motivated me to seek explanations and solutions. Thus, I realize I need to pursue an MS-Mgt to acquire core business skills, such as, finance, operations, and strategic management, to be more solid in my career.
The LCD industry is a burgeoning and vigorous market. Since I joined this business circle in 2002, I have witnessed the evolution of the modern flat display and have felt surprised by how the flat display has affected our usage of digital technology. In the short term, I need an MBA program to obtain necessary managerial techniques to better understand this industry. My long-term career goal is to build and develop a leading company that specializes in providing a long life-span, environmentally friendly, and affordable flat display product to the niche market.
An MS-Mgt program can provide me the necessary support to my short term and long term goals. At Commerce, the curriculum of management skills development and strategic management will enhance my capability to deal with the complexities of a corporation and focus my attention on the “big picture” and the willingness to adapt to changing circumstances. The quality management course will allow me to understand the principles utilized so I will be better able to make a difference in terms of product and service improvement and evaluation. In addition, applied business research will enable me to apply the scientific method of research and generate an appropriate research plan in the real-world business environment. Furthermore, according to my brother who is a graduate student of finance at Texas A&M Commerce, I will be surrounded by a group of amazing, enthusiastic, and motivated individuals with whom I can form precious friendships.
I like cycling because it is similar to business management. I have to learn how to control the brake and avoid dangers when speeding downhill. However, I also need to strengthen my physical force and enhance my riding skills to overcome the continuous steep hills. I’m eager to study everything about business management. I know there are sharp turns and steep slopes along the pathway. By stable pedaling, I am confident that I will sprint to the finish line eventually.
